SLASHPLAY runs dedicated Team Fortress 2 servers for you and your friends. Deploy one, and everyone joins with one click from Steam or a connect line in the console. It runs only while you play, and stopping it saves your server config, maps and addons.

What you can change

TF2 has no one-click match controls on SLASHPLAY. You run it with the tools every TF2 server admin knows:

  • The Console tab sends server commands, like changelevel pl_badwater or mp_timelimit 30. It doesn’t suggest commands for TF2 as you type, so keep the command list handy.
  • The file manager (Advanced → Files) opens the game folder. Your tf/cfg/server.cfg, the tf/maps and tf/addons folders, and the ban lists are part of every save, so a custom config, extra maps or addons survive a stop and restore. Anything else you upload is kept too. See The file manager.
  • A join password keeps strangers out. Turn it on from the General tab. See Join passwords.
  • The size. SMALL handles a casual game. Go MEDIUM or bigger for a full 24-player server with lots of action. You can change the size whenever the server is stopped. See Server sizes.

Where to start

  1. Start a Team Fortress 2 server: deploy, join, invite friends, stop.
  2. Team Fortress 2 console commands: maps, match rules, bots, bans, and a server.cfg that sticks.
  3. SourceMod on Team Fortress 2: admin menus and plugins, installed by hand.
  4. Schedules and auto-stop to keep costs in check.
