How to change the map time limit in TF2

Type mp_timelimit 30 in the server console to play each map for 30 minutes before the next one. 0 means no time limit.

mp_timelimit

Sets how many minutes a map is played before the server moves to the next map. 0 means no time limit.

mp_timelimit <minutes>

Examples

mp_timelimit 30

Thirty minutes per map, a common competitive value.

mp_timelimit 0

No time limit, the map only changes by win or round limits.

Arguments

minutesRequired
Minutes per map. 0 disables the time limit.

What it does

Controls the total play time per map in minutes. When the limit runs out, the server finishes the current round and then changes to the next map in the map cycle. Competitive 5CP configs commonly use 30 minutes, while casual servers often pick 20 to 30.

The game's own description: game time per map in minutes

Good to know

  • By default the map changes at the end of the round that is in progress when time runs out. Set mp_match_end_at_timelimit 1 to end right away.
  • Put it in server.cfg so it survives a restart.

Run it on your server

On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab of the server page; the reply shows right under it. A value set there lasts until the server restarts. To keep it, add the line to tf/cfg/server.cfg. New to this? Start a TF2 server first.
