Every server has a public folder. Any file you put in it gets its own share link that anyone can open in a browser, no account needed. Use it to hand out a custom map, a config pack, a demo recording or a resource pack. This page explains how the links work, what each status means, and the limits.

Before you start

  • Open the server page, then Advanced → Files. The public folder has a globe icon.
  • Uploading, deleting and setting up the Discord webhook need the Control servers permission. See Roles and permissions.

The public folder. The banner shows how many links you've used.

Share a file

  1. Open the public folder in the file manager.
  2. Upload the file: click Upload, or drag it onto the list. You can also drag in a whole folder.
  3. Wait a few seconds. The file’s status changes from SYNCING to LIVE.
  4. Click the link button on the file’s row (Copy public link) and paste the link wherever you like.

The link opens that one file.

  • One link per file. Each file gets its own private link on slashplaycontent.com. The link opens that file only and reveals nothing about your other files or folders, so sharing one file never exposes the rest.
  • Anyone with the link can download the file. Treat a link like a password: share it with the people you mean to share it with.
  • Links keep working while the server is off. Public files are stored separately from the running server, so a stopped server’s links still work.
  • Deleting the file kills the link. To stop sharing a file, delete it from the public folder.

You can even publish while the server is stopped: on the stopped Files tab, click the public folder, then upload or drop files in. New uploads go live right away and land in the folder at the next start.

File statuses

Every file in public shows a status chip. Hover it for the full explanation.

StatusWhat it meansWhat to do
LIVEPublished. The link works.Copy the link.
SYNCINGBeing published. Live within a few seconds.Wait a moment.
NEEDS APPROVALStored safely, but the link stays off until we approve it. Images and videos get a quick look from us first.Ask on Discord and we’ll take a look.
NOT ALLOWEDThis file type can’t be published. Executables and installers (like .exe, .msi, .bat, .apk, .dmg, .iso) are never allowed. The server can still use it; it just won’t get a link.
TOO BIGOver the 1 GB limit for public files. The server can still use it. Share a smaller file, or split it.
NOT PUBLISHEDRefused under an older rule and never got a link.Re-upload it, or click Re-check public folder in the banner.

When files are waiting for approval, a banner at the top of the folder lists them with an Ask on Discord button.

Two files in the public folder: a zip marked LIVE and an installer marked NOT ALLOWED
An installer is never published: NOT ALLOWED.

Re-check files that aren’t published

A file marked NOT PUBLISHED was refused under an older, stricter rule and never went back through the check on its own. You don’t have to re-upload it. When the folder you’re looking at has such files, a banner says One file here isn’t published. (or how many) They were refused under an older rule and never went back through.

  1. Make sure the server is live. The re-check only works while it runs; otherwise you’ll see Start the server first.
  2. Click Re-check public folder in the banner. It shows Re-checking… for a moment.
  3. Every file in the public folder is offered for publishing again under today’s rules. The banner confirms Re-checked, links appear within a few seconds.

Files that are allowed now go LIVE and get their link. Files that still break a rule show their current status instead, for example NOT ALLOWED or NEEDS APPROVAL. The re-check needs the Control servers permission.

Limits

LimitValue
Size per public file1 GB
Files per folder upload2,000
Links per serverLimited. The banner in the public folder shows how many you’ve used out of the limit.

When a server reaches its link limit, new files can’t be published until you delete some. Deleted files free their link.

Storage cost

Live public files count as stored data, just like saves: 1 token per GB per month from the team’s balance. The Storage used panel on the Saves tab shows public files and saves separately. See Storage costs.

Post new files to Discord

You can have every new public file announced in a Discord channel through a webhook:

  1. In Discord, create a webhook for the channel (in the channel’s settings, under Integrations → Webhooks) and copy its URL.
  2. In the public folder on SLASHPLAY, find the line Discord webhook; new files get posted there:.
  3. Paste the URL (it starts with https://discord.com/api/webhooks/) and click Save.

Paste the webhook URL, then click Save.

To change or remove it, click the Discord webhook line, edit or clear the URL, and save. The webhook URL is only visible to members with Control servers, because anyone who has it can post to that channel.

This webhook is separate from the SLASHPLAY Discord bot. For live cards and the event feed, see Announcements and event feed.

Troubleshooting

My file has said SYNCING for a long time. Files normally go live within a few seconds. Try uploading it again, and if it still doesn’t go live, ask on Discord.

My image says NEEDS APPROVAL. That’s normal for images and videos. Ask on Discord and we’ll approve it.

There’s no link button on a file. Only LIVE files have links. Check its status.

The link stopped working. Check the file is still in the public folder and still shows LIVE. Deleting a file kills its link.
