Plain-English definitions of the words you'll meet on SLASHPLAY, from address and burn rate to placement, restore and whitelist, each linked to its full page.

The words SLASHPLAY uses, in alphabetical order, each explained in a sentence or two with a link to the page that covers it properly. Press Ctrl + F to find a term on this page.

A

Address. Where your server lives on the internet, for example GrandOspreyFeather.slashplay.gg:30057: the server’s name, then a port number. Minecraft addresses have no port. The address changes every time the server starts. See Connecting and inviting.

Admission queue. A CS2 feature that makes players knock before they can join: you approve, dismiss or ban each one, and keep a whitelist and a ban list that survive restarts. See Admission queue.

Auto-stop limit. A team setting that stops every server on the team after a set number of hours in one stretch. When it’s set, it overrides each server’s own maximum run time. See Team settings.

B

Backup. A save you take by hand while the server keeps running, with Take backup now on the Saves tab. See Saves and backups.

Balance. How many tokens a team or your wallet holds. The BAL chip on the Home tab adds up every team you’re on. See How tokens work.

Boot. A server starting up, after a deploy or a restore. While booting the status is Starting, and a boot that fails costs nothing. See Start, stop and restore.

Burn rate. How many tokens per hour your running servers spend together, shown as Current burn. The HRS chip divides your balance by it. See How tokens work.

C

Connection. A Discord server connected to a team, set up under Team → Discord. One Discord can host several teams, and a team can be in several Discords. See Connect a Discord server.

Console. The live output of your server, with a box to type server commands. It’s on the server page’s Console tab and only works while the server is live. See The console.

Crashed. The status of a server that went down on its own. If it crashed while starting, you weren’t charged. See Troubleshooting.

D

Deletion protection. A switch on a server’s General tab that stops it from being deleted until you turn it off again. See Delete a server.

Deploy. Creating and starting a new server: pick a game, region and size on the Deploy tab. See Deploy a server.

Deposit. Moving tokens from your personal wallet into a team so its servers can spend them. See Fund a team.

E

Event feed. A quiet log in a Discord channel of what happens on your servers: players joining and leaving, servers starting and stopping. It never pings anyone. See Announcements and event feed.

F

Fleet. All the servers you can see, across every team you’re on. It’s the list on the Servers tab. See Tour the dashboard.

Full Box mode. Lets you treat your server like a small machine of your own: install packages, serve web traffic and edit a boot script. Changes outside the game folder are saved and billed as storage. See Terminal and Full Box mode.

I

Invite code. An 8-character code that lets someone ask to join your team. The owner or an admin approves the request. See Team invites.

Invite link. A link to your server’s invite page, /join/..., that you send to friends. It shows the address and, for Steam games, launches the game into your server. Friends don’t need an account. It changes every time the server starts. See Connecting and inviting.

J

Join password. A password players must enter to join your server. It’s separate from the RCON password, and Minecraft uses a whitelist instead. See Join passwords.

K

Kept folders. The folders and files of each game that are saved when a server stops, like the world, configs and add-ons. Everything else resets to the standard game install on the next start. See What’s kept between runs.

Knock. A player who tried to join a CS2 server with approval mode on and is waiting for you to approve, ban or dismiss them. See Admission queue.

L

Launch options. Extra settings passed to the game server when it starts, such as +game_mode 1 -maxplayers 12 for CS2. See Launch options.

Live. The status of a server that’s up and joinable. A live server spends tokens. See Start, stop and restore.

M

Maximum run time. A per-server safety net on the Schedule tab that stops the server after it has been up for a set time in one stretch, from 30 minutes to 12 hours. See Schedules and auto-stop.

Mods tab. A server page tab for uploading your own mods and plugins and installing them from a team library. It’s on Counter-Strike: Source servers today. See Mods, plugins and custom gamemodes.

Mute. A switch that stops SLASHPLAY from posting about one server in any Discord. Members can still use it with /server. See Per-server Discord settings.

P

Permission preset. A ready-made role for team members: View only, Player, Contributor or Admin. You can also pick permissions one by one. See Roles and permissions.

Placement. How one game server shows up in one connected Discord: which channels, which extra roles, where it’s announced. It follows the team’s defaults unless you change it. See Per-server Discord settings.

Public files. Files you put in your server’s public/ folder, each with its own share link that keeps working while the server is off. See Public files.

Workshop map. A community-made map from the Steam Workshop that you can load onto a CS2 server by pasting its link. See Workshop maps.
