How to whitelist someone in Minecraft

Type whitelist add Steve in the server console, or /whitelist add Steve in chat as an operator. Turn it on with whitelist on.

whitelist

Turns the server whitelist on or off and adds or removes the players allowed to join.

/whitelist <on|off|list|add <targets>|remove <targets>|reload>

Examples

/whitelist add Steve

Lets Steve join.

/whitelist on

Turns the whitelist on.

whitelist list

From the server console, without the slash.

Arguments

actionRequired
on, off, list, add, remove or reload.
targetsOptional
Player name, for add and remove.

What it does

When the whitelist is on, only listed players (and operators) can join. on and off also update white-list in server.properties, and the names are stored in whitelist.json. reload re-reads that file after you edit it by hand; with enforce-whitelist on, players not on the list are kicked when it reloads.

Good to know

  • Needs operator permission level 3 (admin).

Run it on your server

On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab without the leading slash; in game, operators type it in chat with the slash. New to this? Start a Minecraft server first.
