How to ban someone from a Minecraft server

Type ban Griefer123 Griefing at spawn in the server console, or /ban in chat as an operator. The player is kicked and cannot rejoin.

ban

Blocks players from joining the server by name, with an optional reason shown when they try to connect.

/ban <targets> [<reason>]

/ban Griefer123

Bans Griefer123.

/ban Griefer123 Griefing at spawn

Bans with a reason.

ban Griefer123 Cheating

From the server console, without the slash.

Arguments

targetsRequired
Player name or selector.
reasonOptional
Text shown to the player. Defaults to a generic message.

What it does

An online player is kicked right away. You can also ban players who are offline by their exact username. Bans are stored in banned-players.json in the server folder; lift them with pardon.

Good to know

  • Needs operator permission level 3 (admin).
