How to turn on the whitelist on a Minecraft server

Set white-list=true in server.properties and restart the server. Only players added with /whitelist add can then join.

white-list

Controls whether only players on the whitelist can join.

white-list=<value>

Examples

white-list=true

Only whitelisted players can join.

/whitelist add Steve

Add a player.

Values

ValueWhat it does
true On
falseDefault Off

Arguments

valueRequired
The value to write after the equals sign.

On SLASHPLAY

Use the Whitelist switch on the server's Game-specific tab instead, so the panel and the file agree. See the Minecraft whitelist.

What it does

When true, only players added with /whitelist add can connect. You can turn it on or off live with /whitelist on and /whitelist off, which also updates this line.

Good to know

  • Use /whitelist on or /whitelist off to change it without a restart.
  • Combine with enforce-whitelist to kick players already online.

Run it on your server

On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab without the leading slash; in game, operators type it in chat with the slash. New to this? Start a Minecraft server first.
