How to change the ban file on a CS 1.6 server

Type bannedcfgfile banned.cfg in the server console to pick the file writeid saves SteamID bans to. Keep exec banned.cfg in server.cfg.

bannedcfgfile

Name of the file that writeid saves permanent SteamID bans to.

bannedcfgfile <filename>

Examples

bannedcfgfile banned.cfg

Restores the default file name.

Arguments

filenameRequired
Config file name relative to the cstrike folder.

What it does

Sets the file, relative to the cstrike folder, that writeid writes the permanent SteamID ban list into. The engine does not read it back by itself: the stock server.cfg has an exec banned.cfg line for that, so keep it if you rely on writeid. Change the name only if you want bans kept in a different file.

Good to know

  • IP bans are separate: writeip saves them to listip.cfg.

Run it on your server

On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab of the server page; the reply shows right under it. A value set there lasts until the server restarts. To keep it, add the line to cstrike/server.cfg. New to this? Start a CS 1.6 server first.
