How to ban an IP in CS 1.6

Type addip 0 203.0.113.45 in the server console to ban that IP for good, then writeip to save it. Use minutes instead of 0 for a timed ban.

addip

Bans an IP address for a number of minutes, or permanently with 0.

addip <minutes> <ip>

Examples

addip 0 203.0.113.45

Permanently ban this IP address.

addip 60 203.0.113.45

Block this address for one hour.

addip 0 203.0.113.45; writeip

Ban permanently and save the list to listip.cfg.

Arguments

minutesRequired
How long the ban lasts. 0 means permanent.
ipRequired
The IP address to block, without the port, as shown in the adr column of status.

What it does

Adds an IP address to the server's IP filter so that address can no longer connect. Use 0 minutes for a permanent ban. The ban lives in memory only, so run writeip afterwards to save permanent bans to listip.cfg, or they are gone after a restart. Use banid instead when you want to ban a SteamID rather than an address.

Good to know

  • Only bans with 0 minutes are written to listip.cfg by writeip.
  • addip does not kick a player who is already connected; use kick as well.
  • How the filter is applied depends on sv_filterban.

Run it on your server

On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab of the server page; the reply shows right under it. A value set there lasts until the server restarts. To keep it, add the line to cstrike/server.cfg. New to this? Start a CS 1.6 server first.
