How to stop a Minecraft server
Type stop in the server console, or /stop in chat as an operator. The world is saved, players are disconnected and the server shuts down.
stop
Saves the world, disconnects all players and shuts the server down cleanly.
/stop Examples
stop From the server console, without the slash.
/stop From chat, as an operator with level 4.
What it does
Always stop the server this way instead of killing the process, so the world is saved properly. Whether the server starts again afterwards depends on your host or start script.
Good to know
- Needs operator permission level 4 (owner), the level
opgrants by default.
Run it on your server
On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab without the leading slash; in game, operators type it in chat with the slash. New to this? Start a Minecraft server first.
