How to kick AFK players on a Minecraft server

Set player-idle-timeout=30 in server.properties and restart the server. Players idle for 30 minutes are kicked; 0 turns it off.

player-idle-timeout

Sets how many minutes a player can be idle before being kicked.

player-idle-timeout=<value>

Examples

player-idle-timeout=30

Kick after 30 idle minutes.

player-idle-timeout=0

Never kick idle players.

Arguments

valueRequired
The value to write after the equals sign.

What it does

Players who do not move or interact for this long are kicked. 0 turns the idle kick off. You can also change it live with /setidletimeout.

Good to know

  • Changes take effect after a server restart.
  • Use /setidletimeout to change it without a restart.

Run it on your server

On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab without the leading slash; in game, operators type it in chat with the slash. New to this? Start a Minecraft server first.
