How to change max players on a Minecraft server

Set max-players=50 in server.properties and restart the server. Up to 50 players can then be online at once.

max-players

Sets the maximum number of players who can be online at once.

max-players=<value>

Examples

max-players=20

Default.

max-players=50

Bigger community server.

Arguments

valueRequired
The value to write after the equals sign.

What it does

Once this many players are online, new players are refused with "server is full".

Good to know

  • Changes take effect after a server restart.
  • An op entry in ops.json with bypassesPlayerLimit set to true can join a full server.
