How to limit chained block updates in Minecraft

Set max-chained-neighbor-updates=1000000 in server.properties and restart the server. Chained block updates past that number are skipped.

max-chained-neighbor-updates

Sets how many chained block updates can happen in a row before the rest are skipped.

max-chained-neighbor-updates=<value>

Examples

max-chained-neighbor-updates=1000000

Default limit.

Arguments

valueRequired
The value to write after the equals sign.

What it does

Limits long chains of block updates, such as large redstone or sand cascades, to protect the server from lag spikes and crashes. A negative value removes the limit.

Good to know

  • Changes take effect after a server restart.
