How to stop the weather changing in Minecraft

Run /gamerule advance_weather false and the current weather stays as it is. Run /weather clear first for clear skies that last.

advance_weather

Controls whether the weather changes on its own or stays as it is.

/gamerule advance_weather <true|false>

Examples

/gamerule advance_weather false

Stop natural weather changes.

/weather clear

Clear the sky before locking it.

Values

ValueWhat it does
trueDefault On
false Off

Arguments

true|falseOptional
true turns the rule on, false turns it off. Leave it out to show the current value.

What it does

With false, rain, snow and thunderstorms no longer start or stop by themselves. Combine it with /weather clear to lock a world into clear skies, which is common on lobbies and creative servers.

Good to know

  • Renamed from doWeatherCycle.
  • /weather still works while this rule is off.

Run it on your server

On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab without the leading slash; in game, operators type it in chat with the slash. New to this? Start a Minecraft server first.
