How to change the weather in Minecraft

Type /weather clear in chat as an operator, or rain or thunder instead of clear. Add a duration like /weather clear 1d to keep it for a day.

weather

Sets the weather to clear, rain or thunder, with an optional duration.

/weather <clear|rain|thunder> [<duration>]

Examples

/weather clear 6000

Clear skies for 5 minutes.

/weather rain 1d

Rain for one in-game day.

weather clear

From the server console, without the slash.

Arguments

weatherRequired
clear, rain or thunder.
durationOptional
How long it lasts: ticks, or a value with s or d.

What it does

Without a duration the game picks a random length. The duration uses game time units: a plain number is ticks, so 6000 is five minutes, and you can also write 300s or 1d. To keep the weather from ever changing, turn off the advance_weather game rule.

Good to know

  • Needs operator permission level 2.

Run it on your server

On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab without the leading slash; in game, operators type it in chat with the slash. New to this? Start a Minecraft server first.
