How to set a password on a CS 1.6 server

Type sv_password "scrim2024" in the server console and players need that password to join. sv_password "" removes it.

sv_password

Password players must enter to join the server. Empty means no password.

sv_password <password>

Examples

sv_password "scrim2024"

Lock the server for a scrim.

sv_password ""

Remove the password.

Arguments

passwordRequired
Join password, in quotes. Use "" to remove it.

On SLASHPLAY

SLASHPLAY manages this one: set the join password with Join password on the server's General tab. A value set in the console or a cfg overrides the dashboard and the copied connect line stops working.

What it does

Set it for private games, scrims and matches. Players join with password yourpass in their console before connecting, or enter it when the browser asks. The server browser shows a lock icon while a password is set. Set it to an empty string to open the server again.

Good to know

  • This is not the RCON password, that is rcon_password.
  • The value is not shown in the server rules, only that a password is set.

Run it on your server

On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab of the server page; the reply shows right under it. A value set there lasts until the server restarts. To keep it, add the line to cstrike/server.cfg. New to this? Start a CS 1.6 server first.
