How to change the server name in CS 1.6

Type hostname "Friday Night Dust2" in the server console. The new name shows on the scoreboard and in the server browser after its next update.

hostname

The server name shown in the server browser and on the scoreboard.

hostname "<name>"

Examples

hostname "Friday Night Dust2 | 128 tick"

A descriptive public name.

hostname "Private scrim"

A short name for a private match.

Arguments

nameRequired
Server name. Use quotes if it contains spaces.

What it does

Sets the name players see in the server browser, on the scoreboard and when they connect. Put the name in quotes if it has spaces. Changes show in the browser after the next update to the master server, usually within a minute or two.

Good to know

  • Put it in server.cfg, or it resets to the default on restart.

Run it on your server

On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab of the server page; the reply shows right under it. A value set there lasts until the server restarts. To keep it, add the line to cstrike/server.cfg. New to this? Start a CS 1.6 server first.
