How to change update rate on a CS 1.6 server
Type sv_maxupdaterate 101 in the server console so players can get up to 101 updates per second. The default 30 feels choppy.
sv_maxupdaterate
Highest number of updates per second the server sends each client.
sv_maxupdaterate <number> Examples
sv_maxupdaterate 101 Typical value for a 100 tick server.
sv_maxupdaterate 60 Lower value for limited bandwidth.
Arguments
numberRequired- Updates per second.
What it does
This caps each player's cl_updaterate. With the default of 30, players receive 30 updates a second even if they ask for more, which makes movement look less smooth and hit registration feel off. Most servers set 100 or 101, matched with sys_ticrate. A higher update rate also needs a higher sv_maxrate.
Good to know
- The server cannot send more updates than it runs frames, see
sys_ticrate.
Run it on your server
On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab of the server page; the reply shows right under it. A value set there lasts until the server restarts. To keep it, add the line to cstrike/server.cfg. New to this? Start a CS 1.6 server first.
