How to change max rate on a CS 1.6 server

Type sv_maxrate 100000 in the server console to cap each player's rate at 100000 bytes per second. 0 means no server cap.

sv_maxrate

Highest data rate, in bytes per second, the server sends any client. 0 means no server cap.

sv_maxrate <bytes>

Examples

sv_maxrate 100000

Common cap on modern servers.

sv_maxrate 25000

Older, more conservative cap.

Arguments

bytesRequired
Maximum rate in bytes per second. 0 means no cap.

What it does

Each player's rate setting is limited to this value. With 0 the server applies no upper limit of its own and the client's rate decides. Set a cap if bandwidth is limited, or raise it so clients on high rates get full updates at high tickrates.

Good to know

  • Changes are announced to players in chat because the cvar has the server-notify flag.

Run it on your server

On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab of the server page; the reply shows right under it. A value set there lasts until the server restarts. To keep it, add the line to cstrike/server.cfg. New to this? Start a CS 1.6 server first.
