What it does
The server reports itself to the Steam master servers on a timer. Running heartbeat sends that report immediately, for example after changing hostname or restarting. It has no effect when sv_lan is 1.
Good to know
- The server browser can still take a few minutes to show changes.
Run it on your server
On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab of the server page; the reply shows right under it. A value set there lasts until the server restarts. To keep it, add the line to cstrike/server.cfg. New to this? Start a CS 1.6 server first.
