How to make someone admin on a Valheim server

Add their ID, like Steam_76561198000000000, on its own line in adminlist.txt in the server's save folder, then restart the server.

adminlist.txt

Lists the players with admin rights on the server, one Platform User ID per line.

<Platform>_<UserID> (one ID per line)

Examples

Steam_76561198000000000

Makes this Steam player an admin.

Arguments

Platform_UserIDRequired
A Platform User ID such as Steam_76561198000000000. Case sensitive.

What it does

Players in this file can use admin console commands such as kick and ban. The file sits in the save folder (see -savedir). Find a player's ID in the server log or in the game's F2 panel; it has the form Steam_76561198000000000.

Good to know

  • IDs are case sensitive.
  • Restart the server after editing to be sure the change is picked up.

Run it on your server

Launch options go on the server's start line. Admin commands are typed in the in-game console (F5) by a player on the admin list. New to this? Start a Valheim server first.
