How to whitelist players on a Valheim server

Add each player's ID, like Steam_76561198000000000, to permittedlist.txt in the save folder. Once it has one ID, only listed players can join.

permittedlist.txt

Sets a whitelist: once any ID is in it, only the listed players can join the server.

<Platform>_<UserID> (one ID per line)

Examples

Steam_76561198000000000

Only this player and others listed can join.

Arguments

Platform_UserIDRequired
A Platform User ID such as Steam_76561198000000000. Case sensitive.

What it does

Adding even one Platform User ID blocks everyone who is not on the list, including admins not listed. Use it for private servers instead of, or together with, -password. The file is in the save folder.

Good to know

  • An empty file means no whitelist; everyone can join.
  • IDs are case sensitive.

Run it on your server

Launch options go on the server's start line. Admin commands are typed in the in-game console (F5) by a player on the admin list. New to this? Start a Valheim server first.
