How to change the time of day in Minecraft

Type /time set day in chat as an operator, or time set day in the server console. Use noon, night, midnight or ticks like 6000.

time

Sets, adds or shows the time of day, and in 26.x can also pause the clock or change its speed.

/time <set <time>|add <time>|query <time|gametime>|pause|resume|rate <rate>>

Examples

/time set day

Sets the time to morning.

/time add 6000

Skips a quarter of a day.

/time query gametime

Shows how many ticks the world has run.

Arguments

setOptional
Ticks (1000) or a named time like day.
addOptional
Ticks to add, or a value with s or d.
rateOptional
Clock speed multiplier, from 0.00001 to 1000.

What it does

A full day is 24000 ticks. set takes ticks or a named time such as day, noon, night or midnight, and add moves time forward. query time shows the clock time and query gametime the total ticks since the world was created. Version 26.x adds pause, resume, rate and time of <clock> for working with a specific world clock.

Good to know

  • Needs operator permission level 2.
  • To stop the day cycle, set the advance_time game rule to false.
