How to make a player ride a mob in Minecraft

Type /ride @p mount @e[type=minecraft:horse,limit=1,sort=nearest] in chat as an operator to put yourself on the nearest horse. /ride @p dismount gets off.

ride

Makes an entity mount another entity, or dismounts it from whatever it is riding.

/ride <target> <mount <vehicle>|dismount>

Examples

/ride @p mount @e[type=minecraft:horse,limit=1,sort=nearest]

Puts the nearest player on the closest horse.

/ride @p dismount

Gets the player off their mount.

Arguments

targetRequired
The entity that will ride or dismount.
vehicleOptional
The entity to ride, after mount.

What it does

mount puts the target on the vehicle entity, and dismount takes it off. Players can ride mobs this way, and mobs can ride each other, but nothing can be mounted on a player.

Good to know

  • Needs operator permission level 2.

Run it on your server

On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab without the leading slash; in game, operators type it in chat with the slash. New to this? Start a Minecraft server first.
