How to change the server MOTD in Minecraft

Set motd=Survival SMP in server.properties and restart the server. The text shows under your server name in the multiplayer list; \n starts a second line.

motd

The value to write after the equals sign.

What it does

This is the description players see before joining. It supports section sign formatting codes for colors and \n for a second line.

Good to know

  • Changes take effect after a server restart.
