How to change the default game mode in Minecraft
Type defaultgamemode survival in the server console, or /defaultgamemode in chat as an operator. Players joining for the first time get that mode.
defaultgamemode
Sets the game mode that new players get when they join the world for the first time.
/defaultgamemode <survival|creative|adventure|spectator> Examples
/defaultgamemode survival New players start in survival.
/defaultgamemode adventure New players start in adventure, for maps.
Arguments
gamemodeRequiredsurvival,creative,adventureorspectator.
What it does
Players who already joined keep their own mode. If force-gamemode is on, players are switched to the default mode as well. For a single player, use gamemode instead.
Good to know
- Needs operator permission level 2.
Run it on your server
On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab without the leading slash; in game, operators type it in chat with the slash. New to this? Start a Minecraft server first.
