How to set an RCON password in CS2

Add rcon_password "a-long-random-secret" to server.cfg. Anyone with it can run any server command, so keep it long and private.

rcon_password

Sets the password for remote console (RCON) access to the server.

rcon_password <password>

Examples

rcon_password "a-long-random-secret"

Enable RCON with a strong password.

Arguments

passwordRequired
RCON password.

On SLASHPLAY

The Console tab refuses it, because the dashboard uses it. Change the RCON password with Edit or Generate on the RCON panel.

What it does

Anyone with this password can run any server command remotely, so make it long and keep it private. Set it in server.cfg or the launch line.

The game's own description: remote console password.

Good to know

Run it on your server

On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab of the server page; the reply shows right under it. A value set there lasts until the server restarts. To keep it, add the line to game/csgo/cfg/server.cfg. New to this? Start a CS2 server first.
