How to make a LAN server in CS:S

Type sv_lan 1 in the server console so only players on your local network can join, without Steam checks. Internet servers use 0.

sv_lan

Toggles LAN mode, which skips Steam authentication and only lets local network players join.

sv_lan <0|1>

Examples

sv_lan 0

Normal internet server.

sv_lan 1

Local network only.

Arguments

0|1Required
1 turns it on, 0 turns it off.

What it does

Use 1 for a LAN party without internet. Internet servers must keep it at 0 or players from outside cannot connect and the server will not be listed.

The game's own description: Server is a lan server ( no heartbeat, no authentication, no non-class C addresses )

Good to know

  • Usually set at startup or in server.cfg, followed by a map change.

Run it on your server

On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab of the server page; the reply shows right under it. A value set there lasts until the server restarts. To keep it, add the line to cstrike/cfg/server.cfg. New to this? Start a CS:S server first.
