How to block fast RCON guessing in CS 1.6

Type sv_rcon_minfailures 3 in the server console so an IP that fails RCON 3 times within sv_rcon_minfailuretime seconds is banned.

sv_rcon_minfailures

Failed RCON attempts within sv_rcon_minfailuretime seconds that trigger a ban.

sv_rcon_minfailures <number>

Examples

sv_rcon_minfailures 3

Ban after three quick failures.

Arguments

numberRequired
Failures within the time window that cause a ban.

What it does

This catches fast guessing: if an address fails this many times inside the window set by sv_rcon_minfailuretime, it is banned right away. Slower attempts are counted against sv_rcon_maxfailures instead.

Run it on your server

On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab of the server page; the reply shows right under it. A value set there lasts until the server restarts. To keep it, add the line to cstrike/server.cfg. New to this? Start a CS 1.6 server first.
