How to limit lag compensation in CS 1.6

Type sv_maxunlag 0.25 in the server console so the server compensates at most 0.25 seconds of lag on hits. The default is 0.5.

sv_maxunlag

Most lag, in seconds, the server will compensate for when it checks whether a shot hit.

sv_maxunlag <seconds>

Examples

sv_maxunlag 0.5

Default value.

sv_maxunlag 0.25

Limit compensation for very high ping players.

Arguments

secondsRequired
Maximum rewind time in seconds.

What it does

With lag compensation on, the server rewinds players to where the shooter saw them. This caps how far back it rewinds. Players with more latency than this get only partial compensation. The default 0.5 covers almost everyone. Lowering it limits how much very high ping players are compensated, which reduces hits that land after the target has already moved behind cover.

Good to know

Run it on your server

On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab of the server page; the reply shows right under it. A value set there lasts until the server restarts. To keep it, add the line to cstrike/server.cfg. New to this? Start a CS 1.6 server first.
