How to limit player bandwidth on a TF2 server

Type sv_maxrate 0 in the server console for unlimited bandwidth per player, or a byte cap like 196608 on a weak connection.

sv_maxrate

Sets the maximum bandwidth per player in bytes per second. 0 means unlimited.

sv_maxrate <bytes>

Examples

sv_maxrate 0

No cap on player bandwidth.

Arguments

bytesRequired
Bytes per second. 0 is unlimited.

What it does

Caps the rate value that players can use. Leave it at 0 unless you need to limit upload use on a weak connection.

The game's own description: Max bandwidth rate allowed on server, 0 == unlimited

Run it on your server

On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab of the server page; the reply shows right under it. A value set there lasts until the server restarts. To keep it, add the line to tf/cfg/server.cfg. New to this? Start a TF2 server first.
