How to change the map seed in Rust

Add +server.seed 1337 to the server's launch options to generate a different procedural map. Each seed and world size pair makes its own map.

server.seed

Sets the seed for procedural map generation; each seed and size pair makes a different map.

+server.seed <number>

Examples

+server.seed 1337

Generate the map for seed 1337.

+server.seed 12345 +server.worldsize 3500

Seed and size together.

Arguments

numberRequired
Whole number used as the generation seed.

What it does

The same seed and world size always produce the same map, so you can preview candidates on map sites before a wipe. Set it on the launch line; a new seed means a new map and therefore a map wipe.

The game's own description: Seed value used for procedural world generation; changing this produces a completely different map layout

Run it on your server

Type it in the server console or send it over RCON; admins can also use the F1 console in game. To keep a setting, run server.writecfg after changing it, or put it on the launch line as +name value.
