How to load a custom map on a Rust server

Add +server.levelurl "https://example.com/maps/custom.map" to the launch options so the server downloads and loads that custom map file.

server.levelurl

Sets a download URL for a custom map file that the server loads instead of a generated map.

+server.levelurl "<url>"

Examples

+server.levelurl "https://example.com/maps/custom.map"

Load a hosted custom map.

Arguments

urlRequired
Direct download link to a .map file.

What it does

Point it at a publicly downloadable .map file. The server downloads and loads it, and players download the same file when they connect. When set, seed and world size no longer decide the map.

The game's own description: URL to download a custom map file from; if set the server will fetch and load this map instead of generating one

Good to know

  • The link must stay reachable for as long as players need to download the map.

Run it on your server

Type it in the server console or send it over RCON; admins can also use the F1 console in game. To keep a setting, run server.writecfg after changing it, or put it on the launch line as +name value.
