How to change which way a player faces in Minecraft

Type /rotate @p 180 0 in chat as an operator to turn yourself to face north, looking straight ahead.

rotate

Changes the facing direction of an entity, to set exact angles or turn it toward a position or entity.

/rotate <target> <rotation|facing <location>|facing entity <entity> [eyes|feet]>

Examples

/rotate @p 180 0

Makes the nearest player face north.

/rotate @p facing 0 64 0

Turns the player toward 0, 64, 0.

/rotate @e[type=minecraft:armor_stand,limit=1,sort=nearest] facing entity @p eyes

Points an armor stand at the nearest player.

Arguments

targetRequired
One entity to turn.
rotationOptional
Yaw and pitch, absolute or relative with ~.
facingOptional
A position or entity to face.

What it does

Give a yaw and pitch, or use facing with coordinates or facing entity to point at something. Yaw 0 faces south, 90 west, 180 north and -90 east; pitch -90 looks straight up and 90 straight down. It changes only the direction, not the position.

Good to know

  • Needs operator permission level 2.

Run it on your server

On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab without the leading slash; in game, operators type it in chat with the slash. New to this? Start a Minecraft server first.
