How to change network compression on a Minecraft server
Set network-compression-threshold=256 in server.properties and restart the server. Packets over 256 bytes are compressed; -1 turns compression off.
network-compression-threshold
Sets the packet size, in bytes, above which network packets are compressed.
network-compression-threshold=<value> Examples
network-compression-threshold=256 Default.
network-compression-threshold=-1 No compression, for proxies on the same network.
Arguments
valueRequired- The value to write after the equals sign.
What it does
Larger packets are compressed to save bandwidth at the cost of some CPU. Set it to -1 to turn compression off, which helps when the server sits behind a proxy on the same network.
Good to know
- Changes take effect after a server restart.
Run it on your server
On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab without the leading slash; in game, operators type it in chat with the slash. New to this? Start a Minecraft server first.
