mob_griefing

Controls whether mobs can change blocks, like creepers blowing up terrain or endermen picking up blocks.

/gamerule mob_griefing <true|false>

Examples

/gamerule mob_griefing false

Protect builds from creepers and endermen.

Values

ValueWhat it does
trueDefault On
false Off

Arguments

true|falseOptional
true turns the rule on, false turns it off. Leave it out to show the current value.

What it does

With false, creeper and ghast explosions no longer break blocks, endermen cannot take blocks, and villagers cannot farm. Many SMP servers turn it off to protect builds, but it also stops villagers harvesting crops and sheep eating grass, which breaks some farms.

Good to know

  • Turning it off also stops villager farming and some mob behavior farms rely on.
