How to profile ticks on a Minecraft server

Type debug start in the server console, wait a while, then debug stop. A tick report with the average tick rate is saved to the debug folder.

debug

Starts or stops a tick profiling session, or traces every command a function runs into a file.

/debug <start|stop|function <name>>

Examples

debug start

From the console, starts profiling.

debug stop

Stops and writes the report.

/debug function mypack:tick

Traces one run of a function.

Arguments

functionOptional
Function ID to trace.

What it does

start and stop measure server ticks over the session and write a report to the debug folder, along with a summary of ticks and average tick rate. function <name> runs a function and logs each command it executes, which helps debug data packs.

Good to know

  • Needs operator permission level 3 (admin).

Run it on your server

On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab without the leading slash; in game, operators type it in chat with the slash. New to this? Start a Minecraft server first.
