How to set an RCON password on a CS:S server
Add rcon_password "S3cure-Long-Pass" to server.cfg. Admins set the same value in their console and send commands with rcon.
rcon_password
Sets the remote console password that lets admins run server commands remotely.
rcon_password "<password>" Examples
rcon_password "S3cure-Long-Pass" Set the server's RCON password.
rcon_password "S3cure-Long-Pass"; rcon status Log in from your client and run status.
Arguments
passwordRequired- The RCON password.
On SLASHPLAY
The Console tab refuses it, because the dashboard uses it. Change the RCON password with Edit or Generate next to the RCON password on the General tab.
What it does
Put it in server.cfg on the server. On your own client, set the same value and then send commands with rcon. Use a long unique password since anyone with it controls the server.
The game's own description: remote console password.
Good to know
- Failed attempts can get an IP banned, see
sv_rcon_maxfailures. - Leave it empty to disable RCON.
Run it on your server
On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab of the server page; the reply shows right under it. A value set there lasts until the server restarts. To keep it, add the line to cstrike/cfg/server.cfg. New to this? Start a CS:S server first.
