How to change the world on a Valheim server

Add -world "Dedicated" to the server's launch options, and the server loads that world. If no world has that name, a new one is created.

-world

Sets which world the server loads. A new world with that name is created if it does not exist.

-world <world>

Examples

-world "Dedicated"

Loads or creates the world Dedicated.

Arguments

worldRequired
World name.

What it does

Use the name of an existing world to keep playing it, or a new name to generate a fresh world. Worlds are stored in the save folder, which you can move with -savedir.

Good to know

  • Add it to the server start line in start_server.sh (Linux) or start_headless_server.bat (Windows); it applies on the next server start.

Run it on your server

Launch options go on the server's start line. Admin commands are typed in the in-game console (F5) by a player on the admin list. New to this? Start a Valheim server first.
