How to change how often a Valheim server saves

Add -saveinterval 600 to the server's launch options, and the world saves every 10 minutes instead of every 30.

-saveinterval

Sets how often the world is saved, in seconds. The default is 1800 (30 minutes).

-saveinterval <seconds>

Examples

-saveinterval 600

Save every 10 minutes.

Arguments

secondsRequired
Seconds between saves.

What it does

Lower values lose less progress on a crash, at the cost of more frequent saves, which can cause short hitches on big worlds.

Good to know

  • Add it to the server start line in start_server.sh (Linux) or start_headless_server.bat (Windows); it applies on the next server start.

Run it on your server

Launch options go on the server's start line. Admin commands are typed in the in-game console (F5) by a player on the admin list. New to this? Start a Valheim server first.
