How to save a Rust server

Type server.save in the server console to save the world to disk right now.

server.save

Saves the current world to disk immediately.

server.save

Examples

server.save

Write the world to disk now.

What it does

Forces a save outside the autosave cycle. Run it before restarting or stopping the server, before risky admin work, or before taking a backup, so the save file matches what is in the game right now.

The game's own description: Force save the current game

Good to know

  • This saves the world, not the convar settings. For settings, use server.writecfg.

Run it on your server

Type it in the server console or send it over RCON; admins can also use the F1 console in game. To keep a setting, run server.writecfg after changing it, or put it on the launch line as +name value.
