How to shut down a Rust server

Type server.save and then global.quit in the server console to save the world and shut the server down cleanly.

global.quit

Shuts the server down cleanly.

quit

Examples

server.save

Save first.

quit

Then shut the server down.

What it does

Stops the server process from the console or RCON. Run server.save first so the world on disk is current. If you run the server under a service manager or panel, it may start the server again automatically.

The game's own description: Quits the application cleanly with no arguments; rejects calls with arguments to prevent accidental exit; in the editor exits play mode

Good to know

  • Takes no arguments; calls with arguments are rejected to prevent accidental shutdowns.

Run it on your server

Type it in the server console or send it over RCON; admins can also use the F1 console in game. To keep a setting, run server.writecfg after changing it, or put it on the launch line as +name value.
