How to set the server identity in Rust
Add +server.identity "main" to the server's launch options so saves, config and map data live in the server/main folder.
server.identity
Sets the server identity, the folder name under server/ that holds saves, config and map data.
+server.identity "<name>" Examples
+server.identity "main" Store everything in server/main/.
Arguments
nameRequired- Folder name, without spaces or slashes.
What it does
Everything for a server lives in server/<identity>/: the map and save files, cfg/server.cfg, cfg/users.cfg and cfg/bans.cfg. Set it on the launch line before the server starts; changing it later points the server at a different folder, which is how you keep several worlds side by side. A new identity starts with an empty folder, so it behaves like a fresh server.
The game's own description: Unique identifier for this server instance; determines the subfolder used for saves, configs and map data
Good to know
- Launch-line setting: changing it on a running server has no useful effect.
Run it on your server
Type it in the server console or send it over RCON; admins can also use the F1 console in game. To keep a setting, run server.writecfg after changing it, or put it on the launch line as +name value.
