How to roll a dice in Minecraft

Type /random roll 1..6 in chat and the result is announced to everyone, like a public dice roll. /random value 1..6 shows it only to you.

random

Rolls a random number in a range, either shown only to you or announced to everyone in chat.

/random <value|roll> <range> [<sequence>] | /random reset <sequence|*> [<seed>] [<includeWorldSeed>] [<includeSequenceId>]

Examples

/random roll 1..6

Rolls a six-sided die in chat.

/random value 1..100

Picks a number only you can see.

/random reset * 1234

Resets all sequences to a fixed seed.

Arguments

rangeOptional
Range in min..max form.
sequenceOptional
Named random sequence. Needs level 2.
seedOptional
Seed for reset.

What it does

value shows the result only to you, while roll announces it in chat, like rolling dice in public. Ranges use the min..max form, for example 1..6. Named sequences and reset give repeatable results for maps and need permission level 2.

Good to know

  • Any player can use value and roll; sequences and reset need operator permission level 2.

Run it on your server

On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab without the leading slash; in game, operators type it in chat with the slash. New to this? Start a Minecraft server first.
