How to give loot from a loot table in Minecraft

Type /loot give @p loot minecraft:chests/simple_dungeon in chat as an operator to get the items a dungeon chest would hold.

loot

Drops or gives items from a loot table, a mined block, a killed mob or a fishing catch.

/loot <give <players>|insert <pos>|spawn <pos>|replace ...> <loot <table>|kill <target>|mine <pos> [<tool>]|fish <table> <pos> [<tool>]>

Examples

/loot give @p loot minecraft:chests/simple_dungeon

Gives the nearest player a dungeon chest roll.

/loot insert ~ ~-1 ~ loot minecraft:chests/end_city_treasure

Fills the container below you with End city loot.

/loot spawn ~ ~1 ~ kill @e[type=minecraft:zombie,limit=1,sort=nearest]

Drops a zombie's loot without killing it.

Arguments

targetRequired
give, insert, spawn or replace with its destination.
sourceRequired
loot, kill, mine or fish with its arguments.
toolOptional
mainhand, offhand or an item, for mine and fish.

What it does

The first part picks where items go: give to players, insert into a container, spawn as dropped items, or replace specific slots. The second part picks the source: loot <table>, kill <entity> (rolls its drops without killing it), mine <pos> (the block's drops, optionally with a tool) or fish. It is a quick way to fill chests with vanilla loot.

Good to know

  • Needs operator permission level 2.

Run it on your server

On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab without the leading slash; in game, operators type it in chat with the slash. New to this? Start a Minecraft server first.
