How to enable RCON on a Minecraft server
Set enable-rcon=true and a long rcon.password in server.properties, then restart the server. RCON listens on rcon.port, 25575 by default.
enable-rcon
Controls whether remote console (RCON) access is turned on.
enable-rcon=<value> Examples
enable-rcon=true Turn on RCON.
rcon.password=use-a-long-random-password Set a password at the same time.
Values
| Value | What it does |
|---|---|
| true | On |
| falseDefault | Off |
Arguments
valueRequired- The value to write after the equals sign.
On SLASHPLAY
Leave it false on SLASHPLAY: the Console tab talks to Minecraft directly, and an RCON port isn't reachable from outside.
What it does
RCON lets tools and panels send console commands over the network. It needs rcon.password set. RCON traffic is not encrypted, so keep the port firewalled to trusted addresses.
Good to know
- Changes take effect after a server restart.
- Never expose RCON to the internet with a weak password.
Run it on your server
On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab without the leading slash; in game, operators type it in chat with the slash. New to this? Start a Minecraft server first.
