How to uncap FPS in CS:S

Type fps_max 0 in your game console to remove the frame rate cap, or fps_max 300 to cap it at 300. The default is 400.

fps_max

Sets the highest frame rate the game will render.

fps_max <fps>

Examples

fps_max 300

Cap at 300 FPS.

fps_max 0

No cap.

Arguments

fpsRequired
Frame cap.

What it does

Raise it on fast PCs for smoother aim, or lower it to reduce heat and power. 0 removes the cap.

The game's own description: Frame rate limiter, cannot be set while connected to a server.

Good to know

  • Can only be changed while not connected to a server.

Run it on your server

On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab of the server page; the reply shows right under it. A value set there lasts until the server restarts. To keep it, add the line to cstrike/cfg/server.cfg. New to this? Start a CS:S server first.
