How to set your update rate in CS:S
Type cl_updaterate 66 in your game console to request 66 updates a second. Match it to the server tickrate, such as 66 or 100.
cl_updaterate
Sets how many updates per second you request from the server.
cl_updaterate <updates> Examples
cl_updaterate 66 Match a 66 tick server.
cl_updaterate 100 Match a 100 tick server.
Arguments
updatesRequired- Updates per second.
What it does
Match it to the server's tickrate, for example 66 or 100, for the smoothest hit registration. The server limits it between sv_minupdaterate and sv_maxupdaterate.

Use it in your game
Type it in your own game console: turn on the developer console in the game's settings, then press the key under Esc. To keep it, put the line in cstrike/cfg/autoexec.cfg.
