How to uncap or limit FPS in TF2

Type fps_max 0 in your game console from the main menu to remove the frame cap, or set a limit like fps_max 240. The default is 400.

Caps your frame rate. 0 removes the cap.

Cap at 240 fps.

No cap.

fpsRequired: Frame rate cap. 0 is unlimited.

What it does

Many players set a cap a bit above their monitor refresh rate for steadier frame times. Set it in the main menu or autoexec.cfg because it cannot change while connected.

The game's own description: Frame rate limiter, cannot be set while connected to a server.

Run it on your server

On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab of the server page; the reply shows right under it. A value set there lasts until the server restarts. To keep it, add the line to tf/cfg/server.cfg. New to this? Start a TF2 server first.
