How to bind a key in TF2

Type bind f "explode" in your game console and F runs that command. Wrap several commands in quotes, separated by semicolons.

bind

Assigns a command or a chain of commands to a key.

bind <key> <command>

Examples

bind mouse4 "voicemenu 0 0"

Call for a Medic with a side mouse button.

bind f "explode"

Explode on F.

bind kp_end "join_class scout"

Switch to Scout on a numpad key.

Arguments

keyRequired
Key name, for example f, mouse4 or kp_end.
commandRequired
Command to run. Use quotes for several commands.

What it does

Put binds in autoexec.cfg or a class config so they load every time. Wrap several commands in quotes, separated by semicolons.

The game's own description: Bind a key.

Good to know

  • Run bind <key> without a command to see what a key does.

Run it on your server

On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab of the server page; the reply shows right under it. A value set there lasts until the server restarts. To keep it, add the line to tf/cfg/server.cfg. New to this? Start a TF2 server first.
